Netflix’s latest adult animation series has not only gathered an abundance of positive reviews and fanfare but also seemingly introduced the internet’s new crush.

Captain Fall, created by Jon Iver Helgaker, Jonas Torgersen, and Joel Trussell, follows a sea captain who is unaware that his ship is being used to smuggle humans, drugs, and more for an international cartel. This intriguing storyline makes way for Lesley-Ann Brandt’s Liza, an enigmatic criminal and the ship’s second-in-command, who seemingly takes a liking to the titular captain.

On paper, it’s easy to figure out why people are falling head over heels for the character: she’s a bit dubious, she’s very dangerous, and she’s framed to be a total smokeshow in the world of animation.

Liza is also the show’s obvious love interest and harbors an enemies-to-lovers dynamic with Captain Fall, voiced by Jason Ritter, as she goes from viewing him as a dispensable member of the team to feeling protective of his innocence.

While not many people have been talking about this new show, those who have can’t take their eyes off of Liza — or her addictive chemistry with the sea captain.

After watching the series, which premiered July 28, 2023, one viewer tweeted, “I can just tell the person playing Liza Barrel in Captain Fall is hot as hell.” Another wrote, “I ship Liza with the Captain.”

South African actor Lesley-Ann Brandt plays Liza in Captain Fall, and if you thought her voice sounded familiar in the series, perhaps that’s because you’re a fan of the show Lucifer.

Prior to Brandt’s new animation role, she portrayed Mazikeen, the humorous confidant of the titular character, in all six seasons of the popular fantasy series.

Brandt starred in the third season of the VH1 series Single Ladies as Naomi Cox, and several episodes of the Starz series Spartacus: Blood and Sand, along with its prequel Spartacus: Gods of the Arena. She also held single-episode roles in Chuck, Memphis Beat, and Being Mary Jane.

The actor’s first major television role was in the New Zealand sitcom, Diplomatic Immunity.

When it comes to movies, Brandt has starred in numerous lesser-known flicks, including A Beautiful Soul, Drift, and Heartlock.

Following Captain Fall, Brandt has a handful of big projects in the works, including a main role in the upcoming Walking Dead spin-off The Ones Who Live. She will also star opposite Richard Dreyfuss and Donny Glover in the movie Killing Winston Jones. And hopefully, Netflix will see her in the second season of Captain Fall, pending renewal.
